Kathak Festival - A Gurukul Dubai Presentation

DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates 16th, 17th and 18th June 20111

Gurukul, in line with its vision of ‘keeping alive the tradition’ is organizing a Kathak Festival in all its colours – Classical, Contemporary and Sufi, for the very first time in UAE. The company seeks to present, promote, and preserve the performing arts of India; instill our values and heritage in the younger generation; and cultivate cross-cultural understanding amongst our students, who are an amazing blend of Indian and expat-communities.

A rare opportunity to watch the genius of the finest Kathak dancers with live musicians. A unique event featuring more than 100 artists on one platform. Dancers from Lucknow and Jaipur Gharanas will be performing in this festival. The maestro himself, Pandit Birju Maharaj will be performing on stage and conducting workshops with Saswati Sen. Pali Chandra will be taking center stage along with Shikha Khare from Lucknow, Mansi Khosla & Mahesh Pawar.

The entire team of Gurukul Dubai under the direction Pali Chandra will take us on a Journey of Kathak……..as Dancing Divas 2011 – the annual function of Gurukul opens its doors to Dubai for the 3rd time. The various aspects of Kathak – folk, temple, court, sufi and contemporary - and the how it has adapted to changes over centuries will be depicted through this 2 hours production. The language of this production is elegant at the same time energetic, rustic at the same time thematic. Vibrantly showcasing traditional and contemporary sensibilities, this musical will represent a celebration to Kathak – one of the oldest classical dance forms of India. A mixed nationality group consisting of over a 100 Indians, Pakistanis, British, South Africans and Kenyans will weave together this fabric of the Kathak Festival in all its colours.
An event not to be missed!
